5 Reasons To Support the Swap

1. It protects the destruction of the Rural Boundary

If a judge throws out the Rural Boundary as a part of the River Cross lawsuit, it could be gone forever.  This opens huge swaths of land to development and mounting another Charter Amendment to create a new Rural Boundary that would be judicially permissible will be expensive and take significant time, energy and effort.

2. It protects our way of life

The Rural Boundary protects our way of life and ensures that our homes and land will not be subject to run away development and the traffic it brings.  It protects our investment in our homes and land and ensures that we have a dam against the urban scale development of the rest of the Seminole County.

3. It’s a fair trade of land

We get three times as much land preserved that is worth much more than the land we currently have.  Plus the land we are giving up is already adjacent to urban and suburban development and the land we are getting is pristine Old Florida landscape that is relatively untouched.

4. It will deliver millions of dollars in property taxes to Seminole County

The land that will be built on will deliver millions of dollars to Seminole County’s coffers.  Those dollars can be used throughout Seminole County for whatever needs the county sees fit.  That could mean new roads, new parks or maybe even a tax cut.

5. It preserves, forever, land we need and want

When Seminole County bought the land it currently owns in 1994, it forgot to put a Conservation Easement over it so that it could never be developed.  This mistake won’t happen again and when the land is conveyed from the developer to Seminole County, a permanent Conservation Easement will be placed on the land so that generations that come can enjoy it.
